Developer WB Games Montreal has released a new trailer for Gotham Knights that focuses on the abilities of Batman’s protege Robin.
One of the four playable characters in Gotham Knights, Robin seems to have a bunch of gadgets and tricks at his disposal. O trailer (opens in new tab) shows the masked hero using his staff to deflect bullets, placing explosive decoys mid-fight to distract enemies, and speeding towards bad guys using a grappling hook.
More surprisingly, it also shows Robin wielding the deadliest of all weapons; that tool feared by criminal minds everywhere: the slingshot. In true spirit of a bolder Bart Simpson, it seems Robin can launch flashbangs in the air and launch unidentified projectiles at enemies’ foreheads. It’s very dangerous.

More surprisingly, Robin can also teleport using the “Justice League Satellite Teleportation Technology”. While it’s not a fully convincing explanation of the sci-fi kit, it does make for some interesting combat routines. Robin can jump short distances while fighting, zapping between opponents instantly.
But the mention of the Justice League is rather strange. Up until this point, Gotham Knights’ relationship to the wider DC universe has been unclear, with trailers and gameplay focusing solely on Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Red Hood. If the Justice League is an established organization in the game world, we can expect other DC characters to appear as cameos, or even in future DLCs, depending on the game’s success.
Elsewhere in the trailer we get a good look at the different threads Robin will be using. There’s a fair amount of variety, ranging from the bright and gaudy to a level of darkness and melancholy that would make Batman proud.
