We’ve heard enough iPhone 14 leaks to sound like the most exciting iPhone update in a while, and according to a new report from China, Apple expects it to sell very well.
This comes from the publication Sina Finance (opens in new tab) – the website is reporting that Apple is informing its suppliers that initial sales of the iPhone 14 will be higher than those of the iPhone 13.
That’s a high expectation, especially as the iPhone 13 sold well despite global phone sales falling over the year.
It’s worth noting that this refers to early sales – so for people who buy the phones right away and don’t wait a while to pick them up.
If the iPhone 14 is scheduled to be released in September – when iPhones usually do – it’s likely that production has already started.
Review: a major update
If Apple believes the iPhone 14 is selling well, that points to a major upgrade over its predecessor. This is something the leaks have pointed out, especially for the Pro model.
We expect a much higher resolution main camera, a perforated front camera, a titanium bezel, a larger battery and an improved chipset over the standard device.
These changes will make it, both in terms of specs and design, a phone distinct from the iPhone 13 Pro – even people who don’t follow mobile news are likely to understand what an upgrade the 14 Pro is.
So Apple might not be too wrong if it expects people to be interested in the new phones – but will they buy them? Well, that really depends on the price, something consumers will be aware of given the cost of living crisis that is happening right now.
In fact, price may be the most important decision metric for the device, dictating both its sales and whether it will have a spot on our list of the best smartphones.
