We’re just two months away from the likely launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, but it almost looks like Samsung doesn’t want you to buy this phone as it has just released a very tempting offer on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.
You can now get up to $1,100 trade credit (opens in new tab) when you trade in another handset for the price of a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. That’s a standard maximum of $535, and the full amount is available even if your old device has a broken screen.
With that trade-in value, you can reduce the starting price of a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 from $1,799.99 to just $699.99. So you’re getting one of the most expensive phones on the planet for well under half the price – and for less than a Samsung Galaxy S22.
This exchange value is only available if you exchange a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 for it, but as 9to5Google (opens in new tab) notes, that phone itself now sells used for around $700-800. So, in theory, you could even buy one and then trade it in for more than it cost.
If you don’t have a Z Fold 2 you can still get some decent trade-in values, with the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, for example, netting $1,025 and the iPhone 12 Pro Max getting $655 (with the iPhone 13 Pro Max oddly getting you $495 lower). There are plenty of other devices that Samsung will let you trade in for a discount too.
Of course, as you’ve probably guessed from all the dollar symbols, this offer is only available in the US. While exchanges are offered elsewhere, they’re at Samsung’s standard rates, and broken screens will reduce the money you get.
Analysis: Should you buy or should you wait?
If you’re specifically in the market for a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and you have a phone with decent trade-in value, it’s probably worth grabbing this deal as it brings the price down to a much more palatable level, but there are a few things you should consider. first.
For one, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is expected to launch very soon, with a leak pointing to August 10th. waiting for.
Even if you don’t want to spend a lot on the Fold 4, chances are the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be substantially scaled back once the phone arrives. In fact, it is often already sold at a discount in many stores, and prices will only decrease when it is no longer the latest model.
Samsung’s own store sells the Z Fold 3 at full price, so while trade-ins will bring the cost down quite a bit, it starts higher if you buy it directly from Samsung.
So this deal – while worth it for many people – isn’t as impressive as it might initially seem. That said, the fact that the price isn’t reduced for a broken screen is great to look at, and might make it a no-brainer if you’re desperately looking to replace your damaged phone.
